Things to Look Out for During Treatment for FIP Cats

FIP Cats Treatment Period

FIP Cats treatment consists of two important stages, the Treatment Period and the Observation Period. In FIP Cats treatment, the use of GS-441524 for 84 days has been shown to be effective based on clinical trials conducted by Dr. Pedersen. To achieve optimal results, it is recommended to undergo treatment for a minimum of 12 weeks or 84 days with daily subcutaneous injections or oral medication. This also aims to minimize the risk of relapse in cats.

Monitoring During the FIP Cats Treatment Period

During the treatment period, it is important to closely monitor the cats. Laboratory tests are advised to be performed on days 30, 60, and 84 to monitor the progress of the recovery. Some aspects that should be continuously monitored include appetite, energy levels, fluid accumulation, nervous system function, defecation and urination.

Things to Avoid During FIP Cats Treatment

During the FIP Cats treatment period, there are several things that should be avoided to ensure treatment success, including:

1. Use of Drugs/Supplements that Contain L-Lysine

Avoid using medications or supplements that contain L-Lysine. This is because L-lysine prevents Arginine from being taken up in the body. Arginine is crucial for the recovery of a healthy, functioning immune system in FIP cats.

2. Use of Spot On Flea Medication

The use of Spot On flea medication should be avoided during FIP treatment. Flea medications should only be used after at least 30-day observation period. If your cat is experiencing a flea problem, you should use flea control methods such as shampoo, spray, powder and/or flea collar, and diligently comb the coat to remove fleas. If the situation requires treatment, it is advised to consult us.

3. Vaccination

Vaccination of the FIP cat should be halted during the treatment period. We recommend vaccination after the completion of the 3-month observation period.

4. Surgery

Do not perform surgery unless it is absolutely necessary. Before considering surgery, it is highly recommended to consult with the Basmi FIP team to ensure the safety and feasibility of the surgery on cats under FIP treatment.

5. Sterilization

It is recommended to postpone sterilization until after the 3-month observation period has been completed. This is to ensure the cat's health condition is more stable before undergoing the sterilization procedure.

Things to Look Out for When Starting FIP Cats Treatment with GS-441524

Before starting FIP Cats treatment with GS-441524, there are a few things to note to ensure the effectiveness of the treatment, including:

  • Provide additional supplements such as vitamin B12 and Omega 3 fatty acids as nutritional support required by the cat during treatment.

  • Observe the cat's weight change every 7 days. If there is an increase in weight, the injection volume of GS-441524 should be increased. However, if there is weight loss, the injection volume should be maintained.

  • If there are other symptoms suggestive of liver, kidney, anemia or infection problems, additional treatment in addition to GS-441524 should be given to ensure the cat's optimal recovery.

Observation Period

After 84 days of FIP Cats treatment and blood test results showing ideal improvement in all parameters, the cat will enter an observation period of 84 days. During this period, no active treatment is required, but it is still recommended to perform laboratory tests on the 30th, 60th, and 84th day to monitor the cat's overall health progress. This period is crucial to ensure the cat is not experiencing relapse.
